As a birth doula I believe in the philosophy that a woman's confidence in her ability to give birth and to care for her baby, are enhanced or diminished by every person who gives her care and by the environment which she gives birth. Birth is a normal, natural, and healthy process which can safely take place in homes, birth centers, and hospitals. Women and babies have the inherent wisdom necessary for birth. Babies are aware, sensitive human beings at the time of birth, and should be acknowledged and treated as such. I strongly support fully informed consent and a woman's right to choose. A doula's support is appropriate and invaluable for the woman seeking a medicated, un-medicated or Cesarean birth. As your birth doula I will provide continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information to make truly informed decisions before, during and just after childbirth. I offer self-relaxation techniques, nutrition and exercise suggestions, educational material and even a Mammas D.O.B. “Day Of Beauty” a few days after labor. I am a certifiable DONA/ICEA trained doula for those that are interested and my experience and education in breastfeeding is a great benefit during the postpartum period.

When the exciting day arrives and your birth process has begun, I will be there to support and care for your physical and emotional needs throughout your birth experience. I will be there to help you stay centered in relaxing through every surge your body releases to move your baby down and to help you cope with every sensation in which that may bring. Your birth plan will always be on the forefront of my mind when it is time to advocate. When decisions need to be made it is important to me that you and your partner remain informed and empowered no matter what circumstances occur. Once your sweet baby is in your arms, I will stay one or two hours to ensure you and your family are settled in and breastfeeding is established, before leaving to allow intimate family bonding.

Studies show that when doulas are present at birth, women have shorter labors, fewer medical interventions, fewer cesareans and healthier babies. Recent evidence also suggests that when a doula provides labor support, women are more satisfied with their experience and the mother-infant interaction is enhanced for up to two months after the birth or more. With doula support, fathers tend to stay more involved with their partner rather than pull away in times of stress. The benefits of doula care have been recognized worldwide. The Medical Leadership Council of Washington,D.C., the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and the World Healthcare Organization are some of the many healthcare organizations that value the benefits that doulas provide to women in labor."
